Legal Requirements
I will ensure you have a full understanding of all the legal requirements of a marriage.I undertake to comply with the Marriage Act of Australia.It is a legal requirement to complete the NOIM Notice of intent to marriage form and lodge it with your celebrant one calendar month prior to your wedding.It is valid for 18 months. The form can be downloaded from the Australian Attorney Generals website www.ag.gov.au/celebrants.
\As an authorised civil marriage celebant I can supply the NOIM and also register this online.Please do not sign the NOIM as the celebrant must witness the signing. Marriage of any person under the age of 18 requires an order from a judge or magistrate. The NOIM stays with the celebrant and is kept in a safe place and is confidential
You will need certain documentation -this must be produced and sighted by the celebrant before the marriage is conducted. Documents such as Birth Certificates,Australian Citizenship,Overseas Passports and in the case of previous marriages a Decree Absolute or Death Certificate. If unsure I can advise you on the requried documentation.
As a marriage celebrant and JP I can witness the documents.
The Marraige Celebrant Must
Identify themselves to the all parties and I must make mention of section 46 of the mariage ACT [Monitum] in the ceremony. Ensure that they see and hear the vows being exchanged,as it is the exchange of vows that constitutes the marriage. Sign the papers required and register the marriage.
My personal committment is to perform a professional ceremony,provide all information/PA systems as required and be at the venue 40 minutes before the ceremony.
Registering the Marriage
Marriage Celebrants are responsible for registering the marriage within 14 days of the ceremony.The NSW Registry of Births,Deaths and Marriages records all marriages that occur in NSW.
Marriage Certificates
You will be given the Commonwealth Government marriage certificate on the day by the celebrant.
